“Christian Dior” retrospective is a sight for sore eyes,
“Dior celebrates 70 years” was my great reason to make a trip to Paris last autumn. Paris was absolutely enchanting, gorgeous weather, with summer degrees and Paris, never looked better in the autumn colours. I had all the time in the world, so I went for long walks, enjoyed as many art exhibitions as I could, great company from my friends, concerts and films.
The entire exhibition would take you through a lifetime
of dedication to the dress and to the woman. With Christian Dior as the founding father leading you to Yves Saint Laurent. Who modernised the style and therefore also the woman. Years later John Galliano took the work of creation to a new, absolutely spectacular level, which never been seen before!
However, The Dior house brought later back
a certain naturalism by the Belgian designer Raf Simons. Who re-introduced a sculptured simplicity to the dress.
Today with finally, a woman at the helm of the design,
Maria Grazia Chiuri, intend to bring us a new strong and confident look to women. Facing a completely new day at the house with this new direction. She is an activist and feminist. Here you can read the article from Vogue last year and get an insight into Maria’s world.
The exhibition has been astronomically successful!
The house of Dior gives us candy for the eyes, though even for a short moment. This exhibition will be remembered dearly!
I’ll finish this article with a quotation from Boris Vian, from his lyrics:
“J’suis snob”
“Et quand je serai mort J´veux un suaire de chez Dior!”
