ça y est….. je peux maintenant quitter Paris pour cette fois-ci, j’ai vu: Helmut Newton, mes amis (pas tous malheureusement) & ma famille! Demain retour à ma ville d’adoption, Bangkok!

4 years ago I started my blog and the first story was “Why not get married” with my dear friends Anna and Niklas. I had the wonderful occasion to be their photographer at this beautiful wedding at the Ocean, At Koh Samet island here in Thailand. I met them when I moved to Bangkok 2006.

Niklas passed away , 10 days ago, far too young……..I don’t have words for this, because I just really DON’T UNDERSTAND. We always say that we have the WHOLE LIFE in front of us……and we do!, but often realize that we don’t have enough time….

I dedicate these pictures of the day to Niklas, Anna and their children Pontus & Ella. And of course to their closest and dearest family.

The Lady and the fearless

A few weeks ago the Serindia Gallery in Bangkok, opened the photographic exhibition “ABHAYA Burma’s Fearlessness” by documentary photographer James Mackay. James Mackay has worked extensively on issues about Burma for a very long time in a very close collaboration with exile Burmese organisations and underground networks both inside and outside Burma. All issues are about the democracy movements, political dissidents, human rights watch and this long term project about political prisoners in Burma. This tremendously dedicated work, challenging and fearless, comes together at the exhibition with the launch of the book: ABHAYA: Burma’s Fearlessness published by River Books.

These portraits are powerful and engaging and I almost heard a “dialogue” between former prisoners and they who are still behind bars……

This exhibition has been extended to the 24th of December, if you’re in Bangkok…… Don’t miss it!

Finally IKEA is here in Thailand!

I can sort of go back to a normal life now….. (5 years I’ve been living in Bangkok without an IKEA store!!??)well except for the flooding!! not really normal life, this situation with the flooding is outrageous. Personally I think the government has to release the water into the central Bangkok, to relief people from these enormous water-masses. People who lives in the surrounding suburbs and provinces can not continue with the water up til their necks. They have to get the water out to the sea as soon as possible!!

Today I would like to tell you a little about IKEA, the first one opening in Thailand, Bangna, Bangkok. It’s part of the new mega-shopping complex “Mega Bangna”. Which is still under construction, but the IKEA store is NEVER late……this is the 330th IKEA store in the world and the biggest one in Southeast Asia. I was born just 5 years after IKEA opened in 1965. The first store in the world, “Kungens Kurva” in Skärholmen, Stockholm, Sweden. I am a pure generation of IKEA “Wonderland”, my mother basically lived there…..when she wasn’t at work! IKEA’s philosophy is: Home is the most important place in the world. That’s why IKEA helps people to create a better everyday life at home for the many people.

IKEA held a very “Low-Key Opening” instead of a big celebration due to the extreme flood crisis. Ikea Thailand has donated 20 million Baht to help those who are suffering from the floods, the donation was given to flood victims through the Mae Fah Luang Foundation.

Flooding…….50 million whales are making their way to the sea

As you may have seen on the news there’s massive flooding in Thailand and the water has rapidly making it’s way from the North down to Bangkok and surrounding suburbs.

We have about 50 million whales that have to make their way to the ocean and it kind of makes a certain disturbance to everyday life in Bangkok……

Where I live in Central Bangkok everything is fine and dry, we can still move around pretty easy, do our shopping, penury concerning water can be a problem, for the moment I’m OK and my family and friends as well, but many fellow Thais are in great despair and water up till their necks…… so yes I understand when they say that holding back the water from central Bangkok, may be very disturbing for the people living along the Chao Phraya river. If we flood central Bangkok, we will probably ease off the levels in many suburbs and along the river, but the inner city is the heart of economy….. means (in my eyes) that the Fortress has to stand strong as long as possible. SORRY!

Off to Paris with Marcelina

Things are hectic around the house, but I wanted to make a last post before heading off to Paris…. with my Marcelina from Hermès . Marcelina was created by my dear friend, the artist Natalie Rich-Fernandez . The name “Marcelina” comes from a very inspiring woman, who has in many ways meant a great deal of love and creativity, for the artist. She unfortunately never got to wear her own Marcelina, but we, ARE WEARING IT IN HER NAME!

IKEA in 1965

My mother used to bring me and my brother almost every month to IKEA, Kungens Kurva in Skärholmen, south of Stockholm. The first IKEA opened in 1965, and I was born in 1970, so I was literary born into the era of IKEA “wonderland”. First thing to do when we arrived at Ikea was: we “parked” my brother at “Småland” and kind of got rid of a heavy load, but he was happy, playing around like a wild child in the colourful “ballroom”. We call IKEA in Stockholm “Guggenheim of Sweden” fits the building perfect …. it’s ROUND and a great milestone to architecture. Now I hope that ALL architects are agreeing with me!

IKEA 1.000.000 Catalogues are HERE….

Last Friday I was not to miss the launch of the first IKEA catalogues in Thailand!! 1.000.000 printed…and ready to deliver. The event started at 11.00am I was there around 11.30am and there was already people lining up. This is a first time for me as well to be part of a launch of IKEA. I always had IKEA around wherever I lived, it was always a part of my life.

So now to see from the beginning how a country is going to welcome this “Swedishness” into their culture is going to be something my camera and I are going to enjoy to follow up.

There will be more from the opening on the 3rd of November 2011. See you there perhaps……
